Desert Promise.

About

I started this blog to share some of my thoughts and insights as I navigate life and grow in my faith. Why I'm sharing is another story. This is a stretch for me. I don't share much of my inner world. Especially with strangers. However, I realized the experiences in my life, while unique to me, have granted me some wisdom. Oftentimes I get a feeling or sense about a truth, concept, or idea before I can actually articulate it. I experience it before I can explain it. This is partly my attempt to share those things. It had been on my mind for months to start this blog. After wrestling with whether or not I was ready, or if it would even be of value, that's when I felt God say “Just get started.” I still have a lot to learn, starting the blog doesn't mean I've figured this thing out. But, perhaps something here can be that ‘a-ha’ moment for someone else and they can avoid having to 'earn' the wisdom.

My goals for this blog:

  • Become a better writer: I always enjoyed reading and writing as a kid, even in college I was taking elective writing courses. I haven't done much of it over the last decade. This is practice for me. Lord willing, maybe you'll notice some improvement as I post more.
  • Expand technical skills: I am not a web developer, though it was one of my favorite technical classes in college. This blog is hosted on Vercel, built on the Next.js framework, and styled with Tailwind CSS. And, with the help of Claude Code, I feel more like a web dev every day.
  • Utilize my talents: I have seen where God has given me a variety of passions and talents. Many of them, I have placed on the shelf for years. I want to honor Him with the gifts I feel He has given me.

The articles I add to this blog are from my brain. In fact, many of the concepts and nuggets come from my journaling. When I begin to see an overarching theme of what God is teaching me, usually over months or years, then I draft an article about the topic. Sometimes sitting on it for months before revising.

I do use AI (Claude Code) to assist me with website styling, image generation, technical issues, formatting advice, and grammar/spellcheck. But the thoughts and ideas conveyed are my own. I will NOT use AI to write them for me. It's my intention to share insights while communicating them with my current writing abilities.

What does Desert Promise mean? It has multiple interconnected meanings to me. I'm still discovering them, many I can't seem to fully articulate. I encourage you to find meaning in it for yourself. At its essence: The desert is a place we will find ourselves eventually. The promise is what we hold onto in that place. Not every desert is the same, and not every promise we choose can sustain us. But, if the promise is steadfast, it can sustain regardless of terrain. In each cycle of the journey, a new aspect of God's character is revealed to us personally. If we allow the desert to mature us, and the promise to guide us, their union delivers us to a new land. One that was promised before we even realized it.
